QUESTIONIs a learner permit required to begin driving?

NH does not have a required permit. In the state of New Hampshire, new drivers can begin driving with a parent or guardian (with a NH drivers license) at the age of 15 1/2 years old. You must have a Birth Certificate on you or a sanctioned NH State ID card.

QUESTIONWhat is required other than Basic Drivers Education?

At the All Star Driving School, students will receive 30 hours of classroom instruction, 10 hours of driving, and 6 hours of observation. Beyond that, the new driver needs a minimum of 20 hours of driving with a parent or guardian to complete the requirements....this has to be documented.

While doing the 20 hours with a parent or guardian, students needs to have the birth certificate or NH state ID card in the car and no crossing state lines.

LICENSED drivers under the age of 18 cannot drive a motor vehicle between the hours of 1 am and 5 am.

QUESTIONWhen is the Basic Drivers Education required?

If you are between the ages of 16 and 18, Basic Drivers Education is a requirement for obtaining a drivers license. The State of NH requires that you must turn 16 years old before the end of your Basic Drivers Education course. This means that you need to schedule drivers education to coincide with this date. Please remember this and register for classes early so you do not miss this date.

QUESTIONIs there a quick way to tell if a driver is under the age of 21?

In the state of New Hampshire, distinctive drivers licenses are issued for drivers under the age of 21.

QUESTIONWhat is needed when going for your driver's license?

You will need the students original Social Security card (wise to check now that you have it, or you need to reapply for one) and their birth certificate with state seal. Photo copies are not acceptable to present at the time of their drivers test.

At the end of the class you will be presented with a driving certificate that is to be given to the DMV. You will not get this certificate back. Because you will need this proof for your records and your insurance company, it is in your best interest to make copies prior to giving it to the DMV.

Passengers in the car AFTER your child gets their license:

Once a new driver under age 18 receives their license - they are on probation for 6 months. They can only have ONE passenger under 25 that is not an immediate family member. If more than one - a NH licensed driver over the age of 25 must be in the car.

After getting their license they can drive across state lines.
